When I finally got pregnant with my daughter, I was so scared that every time I went to my prenatal appointments I had to bring my husband with me. I figured he could remember everything I couldn't and he would be there to make sure all my questions were answered. Here is a good article on communicating with your doctor or midwife:

"Learning simple ways of asserting yourself is not difficult, although it can take a little courage. One of the key themes in assertiveness training is the theory of personality taken from a branch of psychology called Transaction Analysis. In this theory, we react and act from one of three zones in our personality – the ‘child’, the ‘adult’ or the ‘parent’. If we are faced with a critical authority figure, such as an unfriendly midwife, it can be easy to react as a wounded child. You can deal with this by learning which mode you usually operate in, and how your buttons can be pushed unconsciously by other people’s attitudes and behaviours. Learning to stay in ‘adult’ mode and not be beaten down by someone else’s domineering attitude is a skill made all the more difficult by those wretched hormones and feelings of vulnerability that are part and parcel of being pregnant, but it’s not impossible."
